Founded by Wundt. Titchener took over leadeship of the programme. Fechner's paper was foundational.

The mission was ' to identify and describe the elemental contents of mind.' Adams, see box.

According to Titchener, there are three classes of elements: sensations, images, and affections.

Sensations: mental elements given by the senses

Images: the elements of ideas

Affections: the elements of emotions.

Titchener thought mind and brain function ran in parallel claims Adams.
