Plato 2

The essence of things

Seminar: What is Respect?

In the first hour different groups came up with the following answers:

Respect is:

Consideration of others - whether or not they have authority

Fairness

Adhering to rules and regulations

Unspoken agreement

___

Acceptance

The acceptance of a person regardless of their actions

___

Understanding - A word - A concept - Organiszational - Contextual

___

Showing consideration and appreciation towards objects/beings, through actions.

Giving things value in the way we treat them.

I myself think the last suggestion -

Respect is giving things value in the way we treat them

is terrific.

Second seminar - one group.

I just note that my little dictionary supports the contention of the party at the end of the table that deference (deference= expression of subservience?) does indeed comes into the definition of 'respect'.
